To many, this old proverb is just that, a proverb. But research could back up this age-old saying.
Apples are high in Vitamin C which blocks damage that is caused by free radicals as well as boost your immune system. Apples also contain Complex B-Vitamins which maintain your nervous system and red blood cells. In addition, apples are high in fiber, they contain phytonutrients (protect against the effects of free radicals), and they also contain the minerals calcium, potassium, and phosphorous (Medical News Today).
But the health benefits continue. According to Medical News Today, Apples have been shown to improve neurological health, prevent dementia, reduce your risk of stroke and more. Eating too many apples, however, could be dangerous.
Apples are very acidic, so eating too many may cause damage to your teeth. In addition, apple seeds contain a compound known as cyanide. Cyanide is considered to be a powerful poison (Medical News Today).
So eat an apple a day it’s good for you. But, like with anything else, everything in moderation. And remember, eat the skin!
