What To Listen To While Running Vol. 1

June 19, 2015 Julie Luxemberg

Running makes you happy. It’s that simple. I know you’re not necessarily exuding happiness as you wheeze your way to the end of a run and gracefully collapse on the sidewalk, but it’s true. Running is proven to improve your mood and reduces stress levels. Have you ever regretted going for a run? Didn’t think so.  Do you feel pretty awesome when you’re done? Of course. The combination of accomplishment and exhaustion is one of a kind. Besides improving your mental health, running also strengthens your lungs, helps to prevent cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure, and increases bone density.

The Big Apple is full of adventurous and scenic routes for runners. There are plenty of parks to establish a route in and also many more exciting travels! Try out the Hudson River Greenway, take a jog on the High Line, or bust your butt on the Brooklyn Bridge, but watch out for the tourists.  If you’re feeling truly exploratory, pick a direction and start running (with Google Maps on your phone, of course). When I’m running, I like to be in the zone. I still like to enjoy the scenery around me, but with few distractions. So I blast my music. And when I’m not totally in the mood to get up and go, I make a new running playlist. Here are some of my current favorites.

  1. Surrender –Cash Cash
  2. Hypnotic – Vanic x Zella Day
  3. Our Own House –MisterWives
  4. Lovers on the Sun –David Guetta ft. Sam Martin
  5. Runaway (U & I) –Galantis
  6. Straight Into the Fire –Zedd
  7. I Won’t Let You Walk Away –Mako ft. Madison Beer
  8. Faith –Calvin Harris
  9. Love Again –Cedric Gervais ft. Ali Tamposi
  10. Mine –Phoebe Ryan
When I am finally able to catch my breath after a good run, I crave something super refreshing.  One of my favorite juices, “The Jeans I Wore In High School” does just the trick. The combination of orange, grapefruit, and lemongrass is the perfect amount of tangy with a little touch of natural sweetness. The juice is a great source of electrolytes and is packed with antioxidants, potassium, and vitamins A and C. After replenishing my energy and nutrients with this banging juice, I’m almost ready to get back at it with another run. Almost.
