Running makes you happy. It’s that simple. I know you’re not necessarily exuding happiness as you wheeze your way to the end of a run and gracefully collapse on the sidewalk, but it’s true. Running is proven to improve your mood and reduces stress levels. Have you ever regretted going for a run? Didn’t think so. Do you feel pretty awesome when you’re done? Of course. The combination of accomplishment and exhaustion is one of a kind. Besides improving your mental health, running also strengthens your lungs, helps to prevent cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure, and increases bone density.
The Big Apple is full of adventurous and scenic routes for runners. There are plenty of parks to establish a route in and also many more exciting travels! Try out the Hudson River Greenway, take a jog on the High Line, or bust your butt on the Brooklyn Bridge, but watch out for the tourists. If you’re feeling truly exploratory, pick a direction and start running (with Google Maps on your phone, of course). When I’m running, I like to be in the zone. I still like to enjoy the scenery around me, but with few distractions. So I blast my music. And when I’m not totally in the mood to get up and go, I make a new running playlist. Here are some of my current favorites.
